Privacy policy.

Charting Stars (“we,” “us,” the “observatory”) operates chartingstars.com. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We try to keep this readable; if anything is unclear, write to hello@chartingstars.com.

What we collect

  • Birth data you submit. Date, time, and place of birth that you enter into the chart calculator. We use this only to compute your chart and produce your reading. We do not sell it, ever.
  • Account & billing data. If you purchase a reading or subscribe, we receive your email address from checkout. Payment details (card number, billing address) are handled directly by Stripe — we never see or store the card.
  • Usage data. Standard server logs (IP, user agent, page accessed, timestamp) and aggregated analytics (page views, referrer, country) via Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights. These are privacy-friendly by default and do not use third-party advertising cookies.
  • Email subscribers. If you opt in to the horoscope email list, we store your email address and zodiac sign in our database (Supabase) until you unsubscribe.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies and browser-storage entries. Here is the complete list:

  • Essential. Stripe sets cookies during checkout for fraud prevention and session integrity. These are required for payments to work.
  • Preferences. We store your accent / theme choice and your “cookie consent dismissed” flag in localStorage on your own device. Nothing is transmitted to us.
  • Analytics. Vercel Analytics uses a first-party, privacy-friendly identifier that does not persist across sessions and does not track you across other sites. No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies are set.

You can disable non-essential storage by using your browser’s private mode, by clearing site data, or by using a tracking blocker. Doing so will not break the site — it will only disable analytics.

Who we share data with

  • Stripe — payment processing. Stripe Privacy Policy.
  • Vercel — hosting, edge functions, and analytics. Vercel Privacy Policy.
  • Supabase — database for accounts and email subscriptions. Supabase Privacy Policy.
  • Anthropic — the natal-chart interpretation is generated by Claude. The structured chart facts (planet positions, houses, dignities) are sent to Anthropic to produce the reading. By Anthropic’s commercial-API policy, this content is not used to train models. Anthropic Privacy Policy.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share data with advertising networks. We do not run remarketing pixels.

How long we keep it

  • Birth-chart inputs and generated readings: stored with your account so you can re-read them. Deleted on request.
  • Email-subscription records: kept until you unsubscribe via the link in any email.
  • Server logs: rolling 30 days, then automatically purged.
  • Stripe billing records: retained as required by tax and accounting law (typically 7 years).

Your rights

Depending on where you live (EU/UK under GDPR, California under CCPA, and similar laws elsewhere) you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@chartingstars.com from the address on your account. We respond within 30 days.

California residents: we do not “sell” or “share” personal information as those terms are defined in the CCPA. There is no “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link because there is nothing to opt out of.

Security

Data is transmitted over TLS. Database access is restricted to authenticated server-side calls. Payments are tokenized by Stripe; we never receive your card number. No system is perfectly secure, but we use industry-standard practices and will notify affected users promptly if a breach occurs.

Children

Charting Stars is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the practice evolves. Material changes will be announced on the homepage. The “last updated” date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
