Privacy policy.

Charting Stars (“we,” “us,” the “observatory”) operates chartingstars.com. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We try to keep this readable; if anything is unclear, write to hello@chartingstars.com.

What we collect

  • Birth data you submit. Date, time, and place of birth that you enter into the chart calculator. We use this only to compute your chart and produce your reading. We do not sell it, ever.
  • Account & billing data. If you purchase a reading or subscribe, we receive your email address from checkout. Payment details (card number, billing address) are handled directly by Stripe — we never see or store the card.
  • Usage data. Standard server logs (IP, user agent, page accessed, timestamp) and aggregated analytics (page views, referrer, country) via Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights. These are privacy-friendly by default and do not use third-party advertising cookies.
  • Email subscribers. If you opt in to the horoscope email list, we store your email address and zodiac sign in our database (Supabase) until you unsubscribe.

Optional personal companion

If you choose to save a personal profile, we store the current focus, goals, constraints, and preferences you enter, along with any check-ins and expectations you record. These are linked to your signed-in account in Supabase. The companion uses these answers to display personal reflections and your recorded history. These reflections are descriptive, not psychological diagnoses or scientifically validated predictions.

This version does not send companion entries to an AI provider, add them to shared reading links, or use them for marketing. Saving a profile does not subscribe you to reminders. Avoid including information you do not want stored, especially private information about other people.

You can edit, export, and delete companion data at your personal profile. Deleting the companion removes its saved profile, check-ins, and expectations from the active application database. Reflections are recalculated from remaining entries, not retained as hidden memory. This does not delete your account, purchases, paid readings, or billing records. Backup copies follow the hosting provider's backup retention; contact us for wider deletion requests. The public sample companion uses fictional data and keeps edits only in page memory until you leave or reload it.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies and browser-storage entries. They serve the following purposes:

  • Essential. Stripe sets cookies during checkout for fraud prevention and session integrity. Supabase authentication uses session cookies to keep you signed in.
  • Chart prefill. Some chart and reading flows temporarily save birth details in browser local storage so you do not have to enter them again. This is browser storage, not an encrypted personal vault. Clear this site's data on a shared device when you are finished.
  • First-party attribution. Session and attribution cookies connect visits with the links that brought people here and support product experiments.
  • Preferences. We store your accent / theme choice and your “cookie consent dismissed” flag in localStorage on your own device. Nothing is transmitted to us.
  • Analytics. Vercel Analytics uses a first-party, privacy-friendly identifier that does not persist across sessions and does not track you across other sites. No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies are set.

You can disable non-essential storage by using your browser’s private mode, by clearing site data, or by using a tracking blocker. Clearing or blocking essential storage can sign you out, remove saved form details and preferences, or interrupt checkout. Private browsing does not prevent data you explicitly submit from being stored on our servers.

Who we share data with

  • Stripe — payment processing. Stripe Privacy Policy.
  • Vercel — hosting, edge functions, and analytics. Vercel Privacy Policy.
  • Supabase — database for accounts and email subscriptions. Supabase Privacy Policy.
  • OpenRouter — the natal-chart interpretation is generated by a frontier large-language model accessed through OpenRouter. The structured chart facts (planet positions, houses, dignities) are sent to OpenRouter to produce the reading. OpenRouter Privacy Policy.
  • Quality evaluation. To audit reading quality, we retain a sample of generated readings together with the de-identified chart facts they were computed from, and score them with an LLM judge via OpenRouter. Before a sample is stored or evaluated, we remove your name, email, exact birth date, birth time, and birthplace, and redact your name and email wherever they appear in the reading text. Quality samples are never used for advertising and are not sold.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share data with advertising networks. We do not run remarketing pixels.

How long we keep it

  • Companion entries: retained until you delete them or request deletion. A profile asks for review after 90 days and stops contributing to new reflections until refreshed; that review window is not automatic deletion. The companion holds up to 52 check-ins and 100 expectations, and asks you to remove an entry when full rather than silently discarding history.
  • Birth-chart inputs and generated readings: stored with your account so you can re-read them. Deleted on request.
  • Unpaid reading drafts: scheduled for deletion after seven days when no payment was started or Stripe confirms the checkout expired unpaid. Uncertain payment attempts are retained while we reconcile them. A hashed network identifier limits draft creation; it is removed when payment is confirmed or the draft is deleted. Paid readings keep their saved access.
  • Email-subscription records: kept until you unsubscribe via the link in any email.
  • Server logs: rolling 30 days, then automatically purged.
  • Stripe billing records: retained as required by tax and accounting law (typically 7 years).

Your rights

Depending on where you live (EU/UK under GDPR, California under CCPA, and similar laws elsewhere) you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@chartingstars.com from the address on your account. We respond within 30 days.

California residents: we do not “sell” or “share” personal information as those terms are defined in the CCPA. There is no “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link because there is nothing to opt out of.

Security

Data is transmitted over TLS. Database access is restricted to authenticated server-side calls. Payments are tokenized by Stripe; we never receive your card number. No system is perfectly secure, but we use industry-standard practices and will notify affected users promptly if a breach occurs.

Children

Charting Stars is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the practice evolves. Material changes will be announced on the homepage. The “last updated” date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
