It uses your birth chart information for personal insights without complicated astrology language. Your Pattern is a mix of personality traits based on that natal. The site also ships a web natal chart at https://www.thepattern.com/natalchart that asks for name, birth date, time, place, and email, and it uses the Whole House system. The app is on iOS and Android and lists Your Pattern, Your Bonds, Your Transits, Romantic Transits, Time-Travel, In-Depth, and Shared Experiences. People still look for alternatives because they want a documented VSOP87 + IANA Big 3 with no account, a social daily app, practitioner software, or beginner placement copy. Those are different jobs. This note does not rank a winner.

   Tradeoff: Whole-sign is the house system, and the free preview is the Big 3, not The Pattern’s personality and bond copy. If you want that app’s natal insights in plain language, stay on The Pattern.
3. Co-Star — A phone app built around a natal from your birth data, then a social daily feed and friend comparisons.
   Good for: A push-notification habit and a chart you can share with people already on the app.
   Tradeoff: You need an app-store login, and the product is daily weather more than The Pattern’s personality and bond copy or a traditional house-cusp wheel you can sit with as a student.
4. TimePassages (AstroGraph) — AstroGraph’s desktop, mobile, and TimePassages 3.1 web app: natal, transits, synastry, and click-to-read interpretations by Henry Seltzer, with one login across iPhone, Android, and the web.
   Good for: Practitioners and students who want software they can keep, with house-system switches and a built-in city atlas.
   Tradeoff: Desktop, mobile, and the 3.1 web app are signed-in, not The Pattern’s natal app or Charting Stars’ no-account browser Big 3.
5. Cafe Astrology — A natal calculator paired with a large library of beginner articles for each planet-in-sign and house, written by Annie, with Placidus as the default house system.
   Good for: A gentle first reading of placements, one paragraph at a time, plus free compatibility and transit reports, with no email account.
   Tradeoff: The text describes placements individually. It does not synthesize a whole chart the way a written reading does.

Pick The Pattern if the job is a personalized astrology app from a natal, or its web natal chart at https://www.thepattern.com/natalchart. Pick Co-Star if the job is a social daily on your phone. Pick TimePassages if the job is signed-in software you keep. Pick Cafe Astrology if the job is beginner placement copy.

Pick Charting Stars if the job is a self-serve natal in the browser — VSOP87 positions, IANA timezones, no account to generate the Big 3 — and you may later want a written reading from that same birth moment.
